Direct Power Control Based on Point of Common Coupling Voltage Modulation for Grid-Tied AC Microgrid PV Inverter

In this paper, a direct power control (DPC) approach is proposed for grid-tied AC MG’s photovoltaic (PV) voltage source inverter (VSI) to regulate directly active and reactive powers by modulating microgrid’s (MG) point of common coupling (PCC) voltage. The PCC modulated (PVM) theory-based DPC method (PVMT-DPC) composed nonlinear PVM, damping, conventional feedforward feedback PI controllers. For grid synchronization rather than employing phase-locked-loop (PLL) technology, in study, calculation the current adopted. Subsequently, at PCC, computed real are compared with reference order generate VSI’s signals using sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM). Because absence PLL adoption, suggested controller has faster convergence rate traditional Additionally, it displays nearly zero steady-state oscillations, which assures that quality improved significantly. To validate PVMT-DPC method’s performance real-time simulations conducted via digital simulator (RTDS) variety cases. results demonstrate PV VSI can track quicker (0.055 s) along very low lower total harmonic distortion (THD) 1.697% output current.
